Research Focus

Our research focuses on developing and deploying high-resolution imaging tools, such as adaptive optics ophthalmoscopy, to study the structure and function of the normal and diseased retina on a microscopic scale in the living human eye. Current research in the advanced ophthalmic imaging laboratory is organized around two significant arms focused on glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration. Our AMD work involves studying the association between genotype, retinal phenotype, and risk for progression to advanced AMD. Our glaucoma studies are focused on refining new imaging tools for imaging retinal ganglion cells and deploying them to study the changes to retinal ganglion cells that accompany glaucoma onset, progression, and response to treatment. Additional research interests include eye movements, visual performance, and image processing.
