Jay Chhablani, MD, Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of Clinical Research at the UPMC Vision Institute, leads the Choroidal Research at the University of Pittsburgh. The choroid is part of the uvea and the vascular layer of the eye. It provides oxygen and nourishment to the outer layers of the retina—our lab studies all things choroid, from artificial intelligence algorithms in imaging to outcomes in choroidal pathologies.
Research
- Choroidal diseases such as Central Serous Chorioretinopathy, Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy
- Newer anti-VEGF drugs in retinal disease such as ziv-aflibercept
- Newer imaging modalities such as OCT angiography
- Imaging biomarkers for various retinal and choroidal diseases
Image Processing
- Development of various automated algorithms for choroidal image analysis
- Machine learning algorithm for various macular diseases using multimodal imaging modalities
Surgery
- Newer techniques for macular hole repair
- Intraoperative optical coherence tomography
