Dr. Peter Mortensen joined UPMC as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology in May 2025. He has a wealth of clinical experience treating patients with optic neuropathy, neurologic disorders, and MOGAD. He is conducting gene therapy trials through Gensight alongside José-Alain Sahel, MD, for the treatment of Leber Hereditary Optic Neuropathy, a blinding condition. He has helped train numerous trainees, including medical students, residents, and fellows, and continues to take an active role in medical education at the University of Pittsburgh.
