Dr. Anderson is a neuroscience researcher specializing in connectomics — the comprehensive mapping of neural networks at synaptic resolution using automated transmission electron microscopy. His work has focused on retinal connectomics as a model system for understanding neural computation and its relevance to blinding diseases. He developed key computational infrastructure that accelerated connectome assembly and led the assembly of the first mammalian retinal connectome (RC1), enabling the discovery of novel network motifs that have refactored understanding of retinal circuitry. Dr. Anderson continues to work on improving the throughput and sophistication of connectome acquisition and analysis.
