Ellen Butts, OD, provides primary eye care and works in association with the Glaucoma Division. Dr. Butts has called Pittsburgh home since her childhood. She obtained her undergraduate degree from Gannon University in Erie, PA. She then took a break from Pennsylvania winters to study at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, FL where she received her Doctor of Optometry degree. She completed her residency training in Ocular Disease at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, FL. Dr. Butts founded and serves as the Director of UPMC’s Optometry Residency and Externship programs. Dr. Butts was listed in Newsweek as the 28th Optometrist in the Nation 2021 and is the 2018 recipient of the Low Vision Award of Excellence.
