Dr. Alexander Anetakis is a vitreo-retinal surgeon who completed his training in 2006 and was initially in private practice in South Carolina for two years prior to joining the UPMC’s Department of Ophthalmology in 2008 as an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology. He maintains a very busy academic practice in vitreo-retinal disease at UPMC, and has special interests in age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and diseases of the vitreo-retinal interface.

In 2019, Dr. Anetakis expanded his role at UPMC Enterprises, and in addition to his ophthalmology-related commitments, also serves on the committee that analyzes all life sciences opportunities from the University of Pittsburgh presented to the Translational Sciences team.
