Dr. Weed grew up in Towanda, Pennsylvania. He attended Brigham Young University where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience and a minor in music. His undergraduate activities included several years singing in the BYU Men's Chorus and being a manager for the Utah Valley Marathon. He completed a master's degree in neuroscience, researching endocannabinoid pathways affecting plasticity in reward pathways using electrophysiology methods on the mouse brain. He attended medical school at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where he researched white matter pathways in the brainstem using diffusion MRI and fiber tractography. He completed a transitional year at UPMC prior to beginning ophthalmology residency. Dr. Weed's personal interests include spending time with his wife and their three children, playing piano, and enjoying the many parks in and around Pittsburgh.
