Program Description
The Neuro-Ophthalmology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Eye Center is designed to provide specialized training in Neuro-ophthalmology for an ophthalmologist or neurologist who has completed an approved residency program. The fellowship at UPMC Eye Center allows the unique opportunity to train with three clinical fellowship-trained Neuro-ophthalmologists, as well as Pediatric Neuro-Ophthalmology clinic. We offer exposure to adult strabismus and Oculoplastic surgery, as well as close interaction with the neurology and neurosurgical departments.
Goals and Expectations of Fellowship
- Acquire the knowledge and skill necessary to diagnose and treat neuro-ophthalmic problems including but not limited to neurological, developmental, degenerative and systemic diseases which affect the ocular motor system and sensory visual pathway, including retina, optic nerve, chiasm, optic tracts and optic radiations.
- Attend neuro-ophthalmology clinics at Eye and Ear, Pediatric Neuro-ophthalmology clinics at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
- Teach and supervise residents in inpatient and emergency consultations.
- Conduct neuro-ophthalmic research to be presented at appropriate meetings, and to prepare drafts of manuscripts suitable for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in weekly grand rounds and case conferences.

Interviews are conducted by invitation only and are arranged through the Neuro Ophthalmology Fellowship Director's office. Only candidates who are being considered seriously for appointment will be asked to appear for an interview.
